Creative Ways to Give
IN-KIND GIFTS Gifts of vintage and rare Morgan Horse materials are vital to help enrich the Museum's archives and special collections. Rare photographs, artwork, periodicals, books, first editions and personal memorabilia are only a few examples of the types of materials the Museum collects. GIFTS OF STOCK Stock is one of the best assets to use in making a charitable gift. In most cases an outright gift of appreciated securities entitles the donor to an income tax charitable deduction for the market value of the securities. In the case of securities that have been held for more than one year, the donor may avoid capital gains tax. Contact our office for the name of the local broker who can handle these transfers for you. BEQUEST A donor may include a bequest to the National Museum of the Morgan Horse in a will. A bequest may be for a specific amount, a percentage of the donor's estate, or even a residual portion of the estate. They may also help offset estate taxes and allow a donor to make a significant gift that might not have been possible during his or her life. Such gifts make an enormous difference to the Museum in its long-range planning. REMAINDER GIFTS Through a remainder gift a donor may contribute assets (such as securities) to the Museum and retain the income from those assets for him/herself or another beneficiary for life. A remainder gift allows the donor to take an income tax charitable deduction for a portion of the value of the gift. Furthermore, if appreciated securities are used to fund a gift, the donor does not pay capital gains tax on the appreciation.
